Sisira and Indrani

Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ the duo noted that the time is now ripe for the show to be held in Sri Lanka.

“The terrorist period was not suitable to showcase musical events. Later Sisira became ill and had to rest. Though he had not completely recovered his health Sisira will be singing at the event to meet the demands of his fans,” Indrani revealed. ‘Aadarei Mama Aadarei - Dhammi Thavamath Aadarei, Sugath Thavamath Aadarei’ is the iconic song which put them in the limelight. Many still believe that this song had been penned for the ‘Golu Hadawatha’ movie.

“The song was penned by Karunasena Jayalath. Though the directors requested the song to be featured in the film and television production, Jayath was not taken with the idea since he wrote the song with a new aspect in mind.

Sisira and Indrani had met during the recordings of Dr Lester James Peries's ‘Rekawa’ in India. Just as the film marked a milestone in the film industry it also marked the occasion which brought together two individuals of musical brilliance.

Sisira's soothing style complemented well with Indrani's melodious voice. They have released around 12 cassettes since their careers took off together in 1951.

They have also toured more than 14 countries: Italy, France, Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland and the Middle East.

Film songs like ‘Rekawa’ and ‘Handapana’ will be sung at the upcoming ‘Sisindra’ show.

They will launch their latest ‘Iresha'.Sisira and Indrani's son Sameera too will sing. Saisira and Indrani's friends at the Cultural Ministry, SLBC and NFC will felicitate them during the occasion. The music will be conducted by Mervin Priyantha.
