President to open war memorial
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will open the war memorial constructed by
the Civil Defence Department in Mihintale in memory of thousands of its
members who laid down their lives for the country, on January 19.
Diri Uda programme
The first stage of a Diri Uda programme organized by Transport
Minister Kumara Welgama with his personal funds to distribute school
equipment among grade one students in all schools in the Kalutara
district will be held today at the Matugama auditorium under the
patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Office set ablaze

The Mantivu Grama Niladhari office on the Puttalam Mannar road has
been set ablaze by some unidentified persons on Saturday night. Puttalam
Police investigating the incident said a large number of files and other
documents have been destroyed in the fire. No arrests have been made so
far.
ACUET request
The All Ceylon Union of English Teachers (ACUET) urged Public
Administration Secretary P B Abeykoon to provide administrative
circulars to all recognized unions.
The Union Secretary General M A Stanley Perera said there are 1,050
trade unions in the country and most of them do not have internet
facilities. Thus, these unions do not get administrative circulars and
are completely ignorant of the current affairs, said ACUET issuing a
press release.
The ACUET said during Dr. Sarath Amunugama's period, the
administrative circulars were freely provided to all recognized trade
unions.

Residents of Weeragoda - Ramalaya area in the Ampara district are
subject to wild elephant attacks. Plantations such as coconut,
vegetables etc have been destroyed by the elephants. The wild jumbos
cross the broken electric fence from Weeragoda forest and enter the
village.
