The theme of the exhibition was 'Colours of Sri Lanka' at which
guests viewed an exposition of visual perspectives of the island and
enjoyed a selection of home-made Sri Lankan savouries.
The exhibition 'Colours of Sri Lanka' took place at Eugene, a
renowned restaurant and art gallery in Paris, which used to be the
foundry of Gustave Eiffel, the French engineer and architect acclaimed
for designing the world-famous Eiffel Tower. The restaurant is
classified as a historic place in Paris today.
Among the guests were Ambassador You Shaozhong (China/UNESCO),
Ambassador Maria de los Angeles Florez Prida (Cuba/UNESCO), Ambassador
Anaisabel Prera (Guatemala/UNESCO), Counsellor of the delegation of
Pakistan, the delegation of China, the delegation of Peru, and the
delegation of Pakistan. These diplomats were among a crowded audience of
Parisiens, including university students and youths.
Thomas is a freelance photographer who shares his vision of the world
through his photography. He exhibited his photographs at the French
Senate and organized several exhibitions on countries such as Mexico,
Guatemala, Cuba and Uzbekistan.
Speaking briefly about Thomas' photographs, Ambassador Jayatilleka
said: "I was struck by his ability to deal with equal sensitivity and
from unusual angles, three types of subjects - individuals, landscapes
and historic-cultural interiors. Some of these subjects have been done
before but the angles and the light give them a depiction and a
rendition, almost of magical realism, that I certainly have not seen.
"Of course Pascal's work is not limited to Sri Lanka. He has
travelled widely and has exhibited his photographs for many countries;
Guatemala, Uzbekistan and Cuba. Someday, I hope we can combine all these
photographs, the photographs from various parts of the world."
Thomas said that he "hoped his photographs would promote Sri Lanka
and inspire people to visit this beautiful island".
'Colours of Sri Lanka' will be exhibited at Eugene's until the end of
January 2012. |
