Over 28,000 cannabis plants seized in week's raids

The Police Special Task Force (STF) raided nine acres of cannabis plantations in Lunugamvehera, Thanamalvila and Hambantota during the last seven days. 'The STF seized over 28,000 cannabis plants from these chenas.

'Over five acres of cannabis plantations were found in the Udawalawa forest reserve in Thanamalvila," an officer said. The STF also arrested six suspects during the raid. The officers seized two muzzle loader guns from the suspects' possession.

The raids were conducted at Veheragala in Lunugamvehera, Dahaiyagala, Kalada and Banbaragala in Thanamalvila and Ihalagurudana, Hambantota.
