Tourism promotion in Galle

Galle Fort centric tourism promotional drive will be launched in Galle soon, Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana said.

He said so addressing the meeting organized with the Southern Province Governor, Kumari Balasooriya at Galle Governor's office to discuss matters related to tourism promotion in and around Galle. Governor Balasooriya speaking on the importance of a well planned Galle Fort centric tourism promotional drive said the Galle Fort was built first by the Portuguese and again by the Dutch. It was also recognized by the Britishers too.

It is recognized by other nations as an international monument and named a world heritage by the UN," she said.

Therefore our duty must be to preserve Galle Fort," she said.

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, Galle Mayor Methsiri de Silva, Deputy Mayor, Kelum Seneviratna, Galle Heritage Foundation Chairman Parakrama Dahanayake, Governor Secretary U D C Jayalal, officials of the Economic Development Ministry and Southern Provincial Council officials participated.
