No pension scheme under new amendment
The Employee’s Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill
scheduled to be presented in Parliament for the second reading on
Wednesday has no proposal to introduce a pension scheme, Labour and
Labour Relations Minister Gamini Lokuge said. Addressing a press
conference at the Information Department recently, the minister said
that the clause which referred to setting up of a welfare pension
scheme had been withdrawn by the government following discussions
with the National Labour Advisory Council (NLAC).

‘Desire to find solution in govt-TNA talks’
Commenting on the ongoing talks between the
government and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Prof Rajiva
Wijesinha MP, Presidential adviser for reconciliation and member of
the government delegation for the govt-TNA discussions told the
Daily News that “there is an increasing perception that there are
many common factors between us and there is a desire on both sides
to have a positive solution”.
