Peterites-talented outfit

St. Peter’s College, Colombo 4 is improving their stability, with a new line-up of talented young players in the under 19 inter-school cricket championship. They hope to give of their best this season.

The squad is captained by Shehan Fernando, who played for Sri Lanka team in under 19 cricket championship held in India. He scored 915 runs in the last season. Recently he made 89 runs in five matches. This his 4th year in the team.

Right arm leg spinner Dushan Hemantha who is playing for his 3rd year is the vice captain of the team who played 11 wickets for 174 runs in the last season and has done his best in bowling by getting three wickets for eight runs.

Left hand middle order batsman Jason Buultjens is the next star of the team, who has scored 169 runs in 5 matches with a highest individual score of 49.

Right arm opening batsman Janith Liyanage is another talented player, having made 134 runs in five matches with his highest individual score of 57.

Wicket keeper and left hand batsman Lahiru Milantha is the hero of the team, who has scored 378 runs inclusive of three centuries in five matches.

Third year player Shashin Fernando is a vital link in the batting department, who has scored 267 runs in five matches, having recorded his highest score with 95 runs.

Right arm fast bowler Ali Khan always strengthens up his team with his superb bowling. He has captured 11 wickets for 196 runs in five matches. His best bowling is three wickets for 22 runs and this is his second year in the team.

Left arm leg spinner, Julian De Zilwa is another key player in St. Peter’s line up, having contributed with 30 wickets for 228 runs in five games.

We hope that we can do something more than we did in the past years. We have a steady and stronger team now and hope they will give of their best.

We have set some goals and we’re working to achieve those goals.

Overall, I’m happy about my team,” says the Master-In-Charge of the team Wasantha Haputhanthri. Apart from that he told us that he could expect further progress from Shehan Fernando, Julian De Zilwa, Shashin Fernando and Lahiru Milantha.

The rest of the players in the under 19 First Eleven squad are Ramith Liyanarachi, Uditha Galhena, Kavinda B. Tissera and Thanusha Jayawardane. The team is well supported by the Principal, Academic staff, Old Boys Association, students, parents & well wishers.
