TNA should participate in PSC - SB
‘After gaining independence President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the only
Head of State who spear headed massive development activities in the
North. ‘President who eliminated LTTE terrorism and liberated our
country’s men and women is now fully involved in bringing about a
durable political solution to the ethnic issue in our country at this
juncture all Tamil parties, particularly, the TNA, should get actively
involved in the deliberations of the Parliamentary select, committee, on
the ethnic issue.
Minister
S.B. Dissanayake |
These sentiments were expressed by Higher Education Minister S.B.
Dissanayake in response to our query about a Tamil newspaper report
which quoted Minister S.B. Dissanayake had remarked on some issues.
The minister in his response further said that, the reporter of this
Tamil daily had misquoted him.
The minister further said that there is no question of separation of
our country and India being a very friendly neighbour will never allow
this to happen.
Another Tamil daily carried a similar report yesterday. When this was
brought to the notice of the Information and Media Minister Dr. Keheliya
Rambukwella he said that although TNA participated in several
discussions with the government party they never wanted to conclude such
meetings on a positive note and just left the discussions.
‘Therefore we think it is useless to continue such discussions. The
Parliamentary select committee is the best forum to discuss and find
durable political solution to the ethnic issue. Therefore, the
government hopes that the TNA will change its mind and participate in
the Select Committee process.
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Minister
Douglas Devananda said that the TNA should think about the sufferings
undergone by the Tamil people and should respont positively to the
governments call to participate in the Select Committee deliberations
which is the only forum which can find a durable solution to the ethnic
issue with the blessing of all sections of our community. |
