Illegal acts using Facebook accounts top 1,800

Over 1,800 complaints have been received within the past 18 months regarding illegal acts carried out by persons using the Facebook, Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team’s (SLCERT) senior information security engineer Rohana Palliyaguru told the Daily News.

The majority complaints are regarding fake Facebook accounts. Fake Facebook accounts are made by persons using others’ information without their knowledge, he said.

SLCERT had deactivated most of the fake Facebook accounts after clarifying the identification of those persons, he added.

Other complaints are regarding hacking passwords. Some tend to hack others’ passwords and try to get ransoms, Palliyaguru said.
