Mithun takes the lead

Mithun Perera shot a four under par 67 to move into the lead by one stroke from overnight leader K. Prabagaran who was one under par 70 in the UTE-Cat Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship second round teed off at the Royal Colombo Golf course yesterday. The defending champion Anura Rohana improved steadily with a four under par joint best card for the day with Mithun Perera. Anura shared second place with Prabagaran merely one shot away.

Tissa Chandradasa and Vijitha Bandara were the best among the rest who staggered with a total of two over par tied on 144 in the third place. The ‘Cut-off’ was applied with a joint 40th place of 166 making it to the final two rounds of the Championship.

Meanwhile RCGC captain S. Vairavanathan won the Inaugural UTE-Cat Challenge Trophy for men, after the completion of two rounds with a gross total of 152. The first round leader Nimal Wettimuni was the Runner-up five strokes behind.

The inaugural ladies tournament for the Pam Fernando Challenge Trophy had a strong contingent from Victoria Golf Club, but ultimately won by Shayanika Fernando of RCGC with a two round gross total of 160 while the first round leader Niloo Jayathilake was eight strokes behind overall.
