Jewellery shop robbed

Two people with T-56 weapons had entered a jewellery shop in Horana and robbed jewellery and mobile phones after threatening the workers yesterday.

The thieves were wearing coats and helmets covering their faces. The Police said the thieves had robbed the items within two to three minutes. The thieves had used a motorcycle for this robbery.


Unauthorized abattoir raided

Officers of the Matara Police Vice Squad raided an unauthorised abattoir at Akuressa yesterday and seized 30 killogrammes of mutton. They also arrested one suspect in this connection. The suspect was handed over to the Akuressa Police along with the meat. He was due to be produced in the Matara Magistrate's Court yesterday. Investigations are continuing.


Crash claims airman's life

A member of the Air Force died yesterday when his motorcycle crashed into a private bus in Madurankuliya on the Puttalam- Chilaw road. The victim was identified as W S Weerasinghe. He was attached to the Palaviya Air Force camp.

The victim was a resident of Battuluoya in Narawilluwa and was heading to the Air Force camp when this mishap occurred. The private bus was transporting employees of a garment factory. Mundalama Police are conducting investigations.


Body found

A body of a 26 year old youth was found at the Kelani Nadee Vihara Para on Ferguson Road in Grandpass yesterday.

Police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana stated that the Police identified the deceased as Buddhika Dinesh allegedly a drug addict. The Police found the body at around 6.30 am.

However no complaint had been made to the Police as to the whereabouts of the youth by his family members until the discovery of the body.


Police Grievances Div. opened

A Police Grievances Division has been opened by the Police Department to address the grievances of Police personnel without delay. Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said that any personnel attached to the Police Department could forward their grievances over the phone or fax. The grievances should be sent to 0112472593.

He also said that plans were implemented to provide solutions to the grievances that were forwarded to this division, immediately.


Lecture

The next lecture on the Book of Genesis will be delivered by Very Rev. Father Nilindra Gunasekera, Professor in Sacred Scripture at the National Seminary Ampitiya, on Monday, January 9 at 6 pm at the Colombo YMCA Forum Hall, 39 Bristol Street, Colombo 1.

The lectures are conducted on the invitation of the Colombo Y.M.C.A Bible Study Institute.
