'Army contributing immensely towards development'

Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya stated that the
Sri Lanka Army has saved approximately Rs 3.7 billion during the last
year by contributing their services in the development drive that has
been undertaken by the government.
Army Commander made this observation at a speech delivered at the
Army Headquarters at the dawn of the first working day of the New
Year-2012.The Army Commander commended the role and tasks of all Army
personnel who have contributed tremendously to the forward march of the
country.
He said that by way of mass scale participation in development
projects, the Army has saved more than Rs. 3.7 billion for the
government.
The Army Commander further stated that the Army's engagement in the
government's development projects to bring prosperity to the country has
not ceased. He added that the Army would continue to extend its support
to develop the nation.
He also said the second phase of the international seminar,
'Defeating Terrorism - Sri Lankan Experience,' that was held last year,
is to be held this year too. He added that the heroism depicted by our
troops in rescuing hundreds of entrapped and forcibly-held innocent
Tamils during the humanitarian operation will also be showcased at the
event.
