Cold weather to peter out

The cold weather persisting in the mornings in most parts of the island will slightly lessen during the next few days, Meteorology Department duty forecaster P.G. Yasaratne told the Daily News.

He said the main reason for the cold weather in the morning was the dry wind from the Northern direction across the Indian Ocean. He predicted that the wind direction will change to the Eastern and North Eastern directions in the next few days and as a result the moisture in the air would increase.

Yasaratne observed that ground frost being experienced in Nuwara Eliya in the morning will also gradually lessen in the next few days. He said Nuwara Eliya will experience ground frost today morning while misty conditions are also expected over the country particularly during the morning.

He said that dry weather would prevail over most parts of the island today except for a few showers in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
