Josephians have it easy

St Joseph’s College, Colombo beat formidable St Sebastians College, Moratuwa by nine wickets with the match ending at 3.10 pm in their inter-school under 19 cricket match worked off at Darley Road, Colombo.

Resuming at 113 for 8 on day two, Sebs were all out for a paltry 130 runs and following on, visitors did much better to score 159 runs with Vishamal Fernando engaged in a lonely battle to save his side which was no avail and with his departure Sebs were soon in the pavilion.

Vishamal had eleven fours and three sixes for his knock of 69 runs. Piyamal Perera and Supeshana Jayatilleke claimed 4 for 23 and 4 for 45 respectively for the homesters.

Joes notched up the required runs for victory for the loss of one wicket.

Chief Scores

St Joseph’s 262 and 29 for 1.

St Sebastians (113 for 8 overnight) 130 all out and 159 (Vishamal Fernando 69, Supeshana Jayatilleke 4 for 55, Piyamal Perera 4 for 23).

Richmond beat Isipatana

Richmond College Galle scored a convincing eight wicket win over Isipatana College in their Under 19 inter school cricket match concluded at BRC Grounds Havelock Park Yesterday.

Isipathana replying to Richmond’s first innings’ score of 218 were skittled out for 100 runs in 51.2 overs. Matheesha Ranaweera (25) was the only batsman to offer resistance to the Richmond attack .

Right arm off spinner A.K.Tyron (four for 25) and right arm medium paceman Prabath Nishantha(three for 20) were the wreckers of the Isipatana innings. Following on Isipatana were shot out for 139 runs, in 58.1 overs. Right arm off spinner A.K.Tyron (five for 33) was the wrecker once again. He was ably supported by Left arm leg spinner Bhanuka Madhushan(two for 17).

Requiring 22 runs for victory, the visitors scored 25 for two wickets in 3.2 overs to win by eight wickets

Richmond (1st Innings):218 and 2nd Innings 25 for 2 wickets.

Isipatana(1st Innings 28/2 overnight) 100 all out in 51.2 overs( Matheesha Ranaweera 25, Shanka Thabrew 17 , A.K.Tyron four for 26, Prabath Nishantha three for 20, Saveen Nanayakkara two for 19 and 139 in 58.1 overs (Deshan Jayakumar 20, Malin Dias 21, Shanka Thabrew 19, A.K.Tyron five for 33,Banuka Madushanka two for 17).

Antonians force a draw against Royal

The superb knocks by Manoj Sarathchandra (98) helped St.Anthony’s Katugastota force a draw in their Under-19 inter school cricket match against Royal College which concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Sarathchandra who had 16 fours and one six in his sparkling knock was helped by Yohan Woods(54) which helped the Antonians to end the day at 259/9 wickets. Left arm leg spinner Devin Pathmanadan (four for 93) was the most impressive of the Royal bowlers.

Earlier St.Anthony’s replying to Royals first innings score of 290 were bundled out for 155 runs in 51.4 overs. Sachin Bulathsinhala who remained unbeaten on 78 Paceman Anupa Thilakaratne was the pick of the Royal bowlers with three wickets for 30. He was well supported by Chamika Karunaratne (two for 53) and left arm leg spinner Devin Pathmanadan (two for 0).

St.Anthony’s (1st Innings(96/6 overnight)) 155 all out in 51.4 overs(Sachin Bulathsinhala 78(not out), Kanishka Ranaraja 23, Manoj Sarathchandra 21, Anupa Thilakaratne three for 30, Chamika Karunaratne two for 53, Devin Pathmanadan two for 0) and 254 for 9 in 71 overs. (Manoj Sarathchandra 98, Yohan Woods 54, Ramesh Mackwin 30, Madhusha Pussella 22, Devin Pathmanadan four for 93, Anupa Thilakaratne two for 29, Supun Subasinghe two for 31).

Ananda triumph

Ananda College Colombo scored its second outright win for the season against Lumbini College in their Under 19 inter-school cricket match concluded at Colts Ground yesterday.

A fine innings by right hander Jammika (43), helped Lumbini Vidyalaya to raise their score to 118 at the end of first innings. In reply to Lumbini, Ananda scored 200 in 71.4 overs.

Ushan Gunathilake (38) was the only batsman to defy the attack from Lumbini. Left arm leg spinner Pradeep Wasantha (six for 76) and Right arm leg spinner Thanusha Iddamalgoda (two for 54) were the wreckers. Following on, Lumbini were shot out for 105 in 43.1 overs. Acquiring 24 runs, Ananda won the match by nine wickets scoring 24/1 in 5.5 overs.

Lumbini (1st Innings): 118 and 2nd Innings105 in 43.1 overs.

Ananda (1st Innings):200 all out in 71.4 overs.(Geshan Wimaladharma 24, Pasindu Madushan 24, Dhanuka Madushan 20, Isuru Samarasinghe 29, Ushan Gunathilake 38, Pradeep Wasantha six for 76, Thanusha Iddamalgoda two for 54) and 24 for one in 5.5 overs (Lakshana Jayasekara 10(not out). (TJ)
