Woman dies in accident

A woman succumbed to her injuries at the Colombo National Hospital on Monday while being treated after she was hit by a three-wheeler on Obeysekarapura Road in Welikada. K G Siriyalatha Perera of Gramodaya Mawatha, Obeysekarapura was hit by the three-wheeler on Monday evening while she was walking along the road. Welikada Police arrested the driver.

Another person died at the Kurunegala hospital on the same day after three hours of treatment following a collision between a motorcycle and a bus. Police said E B M Dhanapala of Mahawa who was on his motorcycle had hit a parked bus. Mahawa Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, another female pedestrian died on admission to the Jaffna Hospital after being hit by a motorcyclist. Police said the rider is receiving treatment.

Body found

The body of a young man who was reported to have gone missing while bathing in the sea at Mount Lavinia, drifted ashore at Vanderwert area in Mount Lavinia on Monday evening. The police, after investigations found that G W Shehan Asantha of Udubaddawa, had gone swimming the previous day.

Two cannabis cultivators netted

Two persons who had been engaged in cannabis cultivation on the pretext of preparing a chili chena were taken into custody by Rajangana police on Monday. Police raided the quarter acre cannabis cultivation adjoining the Wilpattu National Park. The suspects were produced before the Thambuttegama magistrate.

Woman remanded for assault

A woman who allegedly killed her husband by assaulting him with a wooden pole at their house in Medapothana, Badulla, was remanded until January 16 by the Badulla magistrate. Badulla police said that the man who was under the influence of alcohol had molested his wife who had assaulted him to escape threat.
