Body of youth found

The body of a youth alleged to have been murdered was found lying
behind an abandoned house, in Yatagala in the Uragasmanhandiya Police
division, Uragasmanhandiya Police said. The deceased was a young
bachelor aged 24, as identified by the mother of the deceased, the
Police said. Further inquiries are being initiated, the Police said.
World Hindi Day
The Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo is organizing the World Hindi Day
on January 10 with the co-operation of the institutions that teach Hindi
in Colombo and other areas. The morning session of the programme
comprises competitions such as poetry, speech, essay, reading, copy
writing and skit. The competitions will be held at the Indian Cultural
Centre auditorium from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm. A number of cultural
programmes such as dances, rendition of songs, skits, instrumental and
vocal music will also be held on the same day from 3 pm to 6 pm at the
New Town Hall Theatre, Green Path, Colombo 7. The winning institutions
and individuals will be awarded.
Islamic lectures
Beacons of light, a series of Islamic lectures will be delivered by
renowned Islamic scholar Belal Assad.
The lecture, Forgive me when I whine will be held on January 4 after
Isha, Those who desire Paradise on January 5 after Isha, Patience and
the power of Dua on January 6 and Jumma Sermon at Lower Bagatelle Jummah
Masjid, Colombo 3. Parents Your Heaven, Your Hell will be held on
January 6 at 8 pm and What are your priorities in life on January 7 at 8
pm at MICH Hall, Colombo 6. Youth culture the Sahaba (Ral) as our role
models will be held on January 8 after Isha at Lower Bagatelle Jummah
Masjid, Colombo 3. All the lectures will be for both men and women
except Jummah Sermon which is only for men.
Iranian films
The Cultural Section of the Iranian embassy in Colombo will screen
award winning Iranian films at the auditorium of the Cultural Section of
the Embassy from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
'City of Mice' and 'Endless Dream' directed by Ali Thalibie, Pouran
Derakhshandeh will be screened on January 4 and 25.
Two award winning films 'Poisonous Mushrooms' and 'The Bride'
directed by Rassul Mollagholi Pour and Blehruvoz Afkhami will be
screened on February 1 and 29.
'Third Day' and 'Boss' directed by M Hussain Latifi and Mashood
Kemiyahi will be screened on March 7 and 28 at the same times.
Lecture
The next lecture on the Book of Genesis will be delivered by Very
Rev. Father Nilindra Gunasekera, Professor in Sacred Scripture at the
National Seminary Ampitiya, on Monday, January 9 at 6 pm at the Colombo
YMCA Forum Hall, 39 Bristol Street, Colombo 1.
The lectures are conducted on the invitation of the Colombo Y.M.C.A
Bible Study Institute.
Website launch
The launching of the new website to commemorate the translations of
Helaatuwa to the Pali language and thereby giving impetus to Buddhism
and publishing new versions for the Thripitaka by Most Ven. Rerukane
Chandawimala Maha Nayaka Thera will be held at Sri Vinayalankarama Sri
Chandawimala Saddamma Sagara Hall, Pokunuwita on January 08, 2012 at

Motor cyclist critically injured
Bandula Gunasekara, Dhammika Welegoda and T.K. Ariyadasa, Malimbada

A motor cyclist was critically injured when a tipper lorry knocked
him down at Maliyadda, Dickwella on Monday.
He was admitted to Dickwella District Hospital and later transferred
to the Matara General Hospital.
The Traffic branch of the Dickwella Police is investigating.
