Degree courses in cinema/TV

For the first time in Sri Lanka, the University of Vocational
Technology(UNIVOTEC) has introduced two degree courses for those who
engage in the television and cinema industry, Youth Affairs and Skills
Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.
Addressing the media at the Youth Affairs and Skills Development
Ministry, Minister Alahapperuma said that the cinema industry was
started over 60 years ago and television industry was over 30 years old.
But both government or private universities never introduced any
degree course for these two fields.
The Bachelor of Screen Studies and Bachelor of Film and Television
Studies has been introduced by the UNIVOTEC with the objectives of
providing academic and vocational qualification for those who engaged in
these two fields, he said.
With the introduction of these degree courses the UNIVOTEC hopes to
provide guidance for conducting research relating to cinema and
television industries and introduce new technologies and innovative
trends in the industries, the minister said.
Experienced personnel in television and cinema fields, students with
NVQ qualifications and those who obtained cinema and the television
industry related diplomas can follow these degree courses, he said.
