The fourth annual Rotary Golf Championships organised by the Rotary
Club of Kandy and the Victoria Golf and Country Resort will be worked
off at the beautiful Victoria golf course at Rajawella off Kandy on
January 21 (Saturday) with the first tee off at 7 a.m.
The proceeds of this golf championship will be utilised for community
development work in the Kandy area. In the past the Rotary Club of Kandy
has been engaged in a number of community development work to uplift the
standard of lives of the "have nots" and others in the rural areas.
Some of these community development works are medical clinics, eye
clinics and providing spectacles improving sanitary conditions provision
of pure drinking water supplies, and many other projects. It must be
recalled that immediately after the tsunami devastated the Eastern Coast
in 2004, this Rotary Club donated fishing boats to fishermen and also
rebuilt some of the houses. The amount spent was very large through
foreign and local donors.
The Rotary Golf Championship will herald the golf calendar at
Victoria which only recently won the award for the Best Golf Course in
the sub continent. The course is in very good condition following the
recent rains which has been followed by bright sunshine. In the past
this golf championship has attracted a large number of women golfers and
the money spent by the golfers will contribute towards a worthy cause.
