Indian nationals arrested with foreign currency
The Fort Police arrested two Indian nationals who attempted to
smuggle foreign currency worth more than Rs.11 million to Singapore.
The two suspects are residents of Tamil Nadu. They were taken into
custody in Messenger Street in Pettah last Tuesday.
Police media sources said that the currency included US Dollars and
Euros. They were handed over to Sri Lanka Customs Preventive Division
yesterday and were fined Rs 100,000 each and the stock of currency
confiscated.
Scores injured in SLTB bus collision
A collision between an SLTB bus and a lorry at 1st mile post on
Badalkumbura-Buttala main road injured 21 persons on Saturday.
The bus driver and five other passengers have been admitted to
Monaragala hospital while others were treated at Badalkumbura hospital.
Abductee shot dead on Thalawatugoda - Kimbulawela road
A man was allegedly abducted and shot dead in Talangama Police area
yesterday.
Police said that Chandana Rohan Lilantha Dabare of Pannipitiya road,
Thalawathugoda had been abducted by an unidentified group of persons who
came in a van just after the dawn of the New Year and taken him to
Ekamuthu Mawatha on Thalawatugoda-Kimbulawela road where he was shot
dead. Thalangama Police are investigating.
