The newly formed British-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce (BSLCC) is
wooing the Diaspora based in the UK to invest in the North and the East.
BSLCC chairman Jayampathi Perera said that there is a large number of
Sri Lanka Tamils based in the UK and they are looking for opportunities
outside Europe to invest, since there is a recession in those countries.
“The UK will face the biggest recession in 36 years this year,’ he said.
“This has prompted investors to look at opportunities in Asia,
including Sri Lanka,” he said.
He said that what happened in the past during the conflict is
something all want to forget and they want to look at the future with a
different perceptive.
Perera said that he will visit Jaffna and meet Yalpanam Chamber of
Commerce members and other businessmen to get an insight of investment
opportunities. He said that they will bring a mixed delegation of Sri
Lankans as well as members of the diaspora for the Expo 2012 exhibition
in Colombo in March. “They will also visit both Hambantota and Jaffna,”
he said. |
