Dilan ahead of favourites at CNR
Dilan Senevirtane once again proved that he is also in the top level
of racing when he won the Colombo Night Race 2011's SL-H 1600 event, one
of the more popular and fastest events in the range. The inaugural
Colombo Night Race claimed an important spot in Sri Lanka's motor racing
agenda and the SL-H 1600 event saw a full grid consisting of 20 cars
driven by some of most renowned drivers. Seneviratne dominated the
qualifying round, securing the pole position recording the fastest time
while Ashan Silva and Sajaad Zuhair qualified for the second and third
slots respectively.

On race day, Seneviratne began strongly, pulling away from the pack
quickly with Ashan Silva gaining on him. The race was then defined with
an exciting run by these drivers as Seneviratne and Silva established a
large gap between them and the rest of the field. These two fine drivers
showed some extremely competitive and clean driving and kept spectators
on their toes till the final lap.
It was to be Seneviratne's night though. Soaking up the pressure from
Silva, the MOBIL 1 powered Seneviratne took the chequered flag, winning
the race. Silva finished in second place while Sajaad Zuhair and Pasindu
Pieris finished third and fourth respectively.
The win is yet another feather in Seneviratne's hat who has enjoyed a
strong 2011, and a testament to his dedication to the sport. |
