A'pura tanks spill over

The heavy intermittent rains experienced in the Anuradhapura district have resulted in almost all small scale tanks and around 80 out of 86 medium scale tanks spilling over.

Anuradhapura district irrigation director Wasantha Bandara Palugaswewa said that the four major reservoir - Wahalkada, Mahawilachchiya, Mahakanadarawa and Manankattia have started spilling over and the water levels of Rajangane, Nuwarawewa, Tisawewa, Abayawewa, Padaviya, Nachchaduwa and Huruluwewa are reaching spill level.

Meanwhile, Anuradhapura deputy agrarian commissioner Ruwan Ratnayake told the Daily News that four small tanks in Horowpothana, Kallanchiya and Thantirimale areas have breached their bunds and 10 smalls scale tanks were partly damaged.
