Cold, wet weather until mid January

The chilly temperature and rain experienced in Sri Lanka will continue until mid January, the Meteorology Department said yesterday.

The atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka has intensified into a low pressure area and is affecting the weather over Sri Lanka and sea areas, the Department said.

The wet weather will continue over the Eastern, Northern, North-central, Uva, Central and Southern provinces. Heavy falls and strong winds at times are expected at some places, the Department report said.

Thunder showers can be expected in Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Galle, Jaffna, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Trincomalee. Scattered showers will be experienced in Ratnapura in the next two days.
