Merry Christmas

The silvern chime of church bells
And the resonating din of crackers
Will echo through the towns and villages
Of this paradise isle
To warmly welcome another merry Christmas
Filled with renewed hopes and resolutions
To give a better life to all of us.

With the dawn of Christmas
Sri Lanka stands upright
In a spirit of reconciliation
To bring peace and harmony to all
With aspirations high
While the price of Christmas commodities
Is exceedingly high
Making each and every housewife to sigh.

Let's welcome with mirth the holy child's birth
With the traditional fun and frolic
Associated with Christmas
Amidst the sweet aroma of Christmas cakes
And the pungent smell of spiny Christmas trees
Wafting in the air
And enticingly wrapped gifts galore
Wishing one another peace and prosperity
In an air pregnant with
Hope and good cheer.
