‘CSC reactivation will ensure public security’

Reorganization and restoration of islandwide Civil Security
Committees (CSC) has been completed. Under the guidance of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Civil
Committees were completely reactivated with the objective of ensuring
peace and security to the public by enhancing the relationship between
the Police and the public, said Greater Colombo DIG I. M. Karunaratne
participating in the Colombo District Coordinating Committee meeting at
the Colombo District Secretariat.
‘Peace and security in society is very vital for a sovereign state.
Recently Sri Lanka experienced several unfortunate incidents due to the
violation of law. he said.
The DIG also said that Civil Security Councils played a vital role
during period of war. But with the end of the terrorist war most of the
Civil Security Committees have become dormant. But Defence Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed that the inactive Civil Security
Committees be reorganized and restored after the recent incidents
related to ‘Grease devils’.
Now there are 14,078 village level Committees and 25 District
Committees. Special Advisory Committees were also established in all
police stations. President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the Head of the National
Civil Security Committee. Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage is the
Committee Coordinator. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Inspector
General of Police N. K. Ilangakoon, DIG I. M. Karunaratne are other
members of the national CSC.
Petroleum Minister and Colombo District Coordinating Committee
co-chairman Susil Premajayantha,Colombo DIG Anura Senanayake, mayors,
deputy mayors, District secretaries, Divisional Secretaries and
department Heads also participated at the occasion. |
