‘Final solution only through PSC’
UPFA Parliamentarian Sajin Vass Gunawardena yesterday emphasized that
any final solution to the Tamil question will only be through the PSC
process. MP Gunawardena who is the Secretary of the committee appointed
to have discussions with the TNA said there was no deadline agreed to or
even discussed as to the committee proceedings.
He was responding to a news item published in a Sunday weekly under
the heading TNA demands solution before New Year, decisive talks
tomorrow quoting TNA Parliamentarian MP M A Sumanthiran.
Issuing a statement MP Vass Gunawardena said: ‘Hon M A Sumanthiran
has stated to the Sunday Lakbimanews of December 18, 2011, “TNA demands
solution before New Year, decisive talks tomorrow”. As a member and
Secretary to the committee appointed to have discussions with the TNA. I
wish to state categorically that this is not correct.
‘The government delegation talks which comprises ministers Nimal
Siripala de Silva, G L Peiris and MPs Sajin de Vass Gunawardena and
Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha is continuing and no such deadlines have been
agreed to and or even discussed. It is highly irresponsible of the TNA
to make such ‘loose’ and ‘callous’ statements especially since the
government has already moved in Parliament for the appointment of a
Parliamentary Select Committee.
‘Any final solution will only be through the PSC process, the TNA
should refrain from undermining this process and in the least respect
the supremacy of Parliament and be genuine in participating in the
process so as to reach the objectives of the PSC acceptable to all
political parties represented in Parliament fulfilling the aspirations
of all communities in Sri Lanka.’ |
