Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera said yesteray
that the government entered into an MoU with the Korean government,
enabling 16,000 Sri Lankans employed in Korea, to apply for a pension
scheme from the Korean government.
Perera also told Parliament that Sri Lankans employed in Korea could
apply for a pension from the Korean government after completing five
years of service.
He said that if they applied for the pension after returning to Sri
Lanka, they would have to stay until 60 years to get the pension.
The minister said that if they applied for the pension while being in
Korea, they will be paid the pension from the month they return to Sri
Lanka.
Perera said there were around 16,000 youths who were deprived of
pension until 60 years, as they failed to apply due to their lack of
information.
The minister said officials of the Foreign Employment Ministry and
Human Resources Institute in Korea entered into an MoU last month for
youths in Sri Lanka to apply for the pension and get it without delay. |
