Damindra and Niloo win golf titles

Captain Damindra Fernando of SriLankan Airlines and that versatile golfer Niloo Jayatillake stole the honours by winning the Gross titles for men and ladies respectively at the annual Club championship at Victoria Golf and Country Resort sponsored by Noritake Limited and worked off at the beautiful Victoria golf course at Rajawella off Digana over the weekend.

A large number of golfers took the field on a bright day bathed in sunshine and the golf course as usual was in trim condition and made challenging by the course manager under the guidance of Australian born General Manager Errol Johnston with the help of the support staff. The golfers reveled under these conditions.

Aggregate

Captain Damindra Fernando making his appearance at Victoria after a long lapse made a welcome return by winning gross title for men with an aggregate of 167. He made 81 on the first day and followed up with 86 on the second day.

Englishman Ian Tait with many victories at Victoria under his belt finished second with a total of 166, getting 86 in the first round and 80 in the second.

It was a fine performance by Captain Damindra Fernando – a versatile sportsman produced by S. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia who represented his alma mater at cricket, rugby and table tennis.

Niloo Jayatillake one of the best lady golfers in the local golfing scene put up a sparkling display to win the Gross championship for ladies.
