Air Force and Navy clinch Western Province shuttle titles

Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Navy shuttlers won the ‘A’ division
men’s and women’s championships respectively in the Western Province
Badminton Association (WPBA) Inter-Club Team Championship played at the
S. Thomas’ indoor courts recently.
Airmen beat Fingara Town Club 3-1 to clinch the Touchwood Challenge
Trophy while women sailors trounced airwomen 2-0 in the finals and
walked away with the York International Challenge Trophy.
WPBA conducted the championship’s 38th edition on a grand note with
the main sponsorship of Touchwood Investments and York International
School.
In the ‘B’ division, SLIIT Badminton Club defeated Nations Trust Bank
3-2 in the final to emerge men’s champion while Bank Hill Sports Club
(A) tamed SLIIT Metro Badminton Club 2-0 in the women’s final.
‘C’ division men’s championship won by Bank Hill Sports Club (A) who
beat the Police Sports Club 3-0 in the final and the women’s title went
on to Excell Badminton Club (B) team who humbled Bank Hill Sports Club
(B) 2-0 in the final. Sky Borne Badminton Club bagged the men’s ‘D’
division shield by beating Kalutara District Association Badminton Club
3-0 in the final.
Altogether 41 men’s teams and 19 ladies teams from 32 Western
Province Clubs and institutions participated in the tournament.
