LSSP to celebrate 76th anniversary

The Lanka Sama Samaja Party will celebrate its 76th anniversary at
the D A Rajapaksa memorial hall in Embilipitiya on December 18 at 2 pm
on the theme of 'Good governance, national unity and the new road to
uplift the country'. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa will be the chief guest.
General Secretary of the LSSP Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs
Tissa Vitharana said that the LSSP is Sri Lanka's oldest political party
with a list of impressive achievements on a national scale.
He said the party was at the forefront of the independence movement
from 1930s to defeat the enslaved mentality of local leaders and gain
independence from the rulers of colonialism. The LSSP was instrumental
in bringing the 1972 Jana Raja constitution where Colvin R de Silva was
the minister of constitutional affairs.
The minister said the party has been at the forefront of the
progressive movement in the country and reminisced former party
strongman N M Perera.
