LSSP to celebrate 76th anniversary

The Lanka Sama Samaja Party will celebrate its 76th anniversary at the D A Rajapaksa memorial hall in Embilipitiya on December 18 at 2 pm on the theme of 'Good governance, national unity and the new road to uplift the country'. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa will be the chief guest.

General Secretary of the LSSP Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs Tissa Vitharana said that the LSSP is Sri Lanka's oldest political party with a list of impressive achievements on a national scale.

He said the party was at the forefront of the independence movement from 1930s to defeat the enslaved mentality of local leaders and gain independence from the rulers of colonialism. The LSSP was instrumental in bringing the 1972 Jana Raja constitution where Colvin R de Silva was the minister of constitutional affairs.

The minister said the party has been at the forefront of the progressive movement in the country and reminisced former party strongman N M Perera.
