The award winning shoe manufacturer in Sri Lanka DSI Group will go for an overseas expansion by opening show rooms in India next year as a global brand. DSI Group Managing Director Kulatunga Rajapakse said at a press briefing held at the DSI Group auditorium on Monday to mark its 50th anniversary.

He said the company exports 20 percent of its products to India, Dubai, Australia and Europe at present and is now planning to open showrooms in Chennai and Kerala in India. The Indian market is growing faster than the European market therefore the company has decided to explore that huge potential he said. Since the production is too much for the local market it is essential to enter the world market and the company’s focus is to conquer the international market next year, he said.

Rajapakse said the company is a franchise holder for world renowned brands such as Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Puma with superior technology and has provided employment to around ten thousand people directly and indirectly. The factory at Karandeniya could provide 400 more jobs but the manpower shortage has become a huge challenge he said.

The group embarked on manufacturing socks investing Rs 500 million recently and is developing more new products such as lunch boxes and drinks bottles for children too.
