Route March

A Route March organised by the Northern Province Police Division will be held near the Killinochchi Main Street on December 8. This Route March has been organised after the three decades war, said DIG Manner Maxie Proctor.

Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne will be the chief guest.


Medical clinic

A medical clinic organized by the General Secretary of Sadaham Osu Welfare Organization Dr Jayashantha Wickramasekera will be held on December 10 from 9 am to 1 pm at Homagama, Magammana, 329/1, Surammaya Mawatha.

All kinds of medical tests including diabetes, eye diseases will be conducted. Medicine will be provided free.


House burgled

A gang of robbers who stormed into a house near the land registry of the Gampaha town has stolen money and other items worth over Rs 100,000 on Monday when the inmates left the house.

Robbers have taken away many items including cash worth over Rs 60,000, jewellery and a credit card after breaking the locks of almirah by using an iron rod.

Gampaha police that attempted to nab the suspects when they were using the credit card at a supermarket in Nittambuwa failed to catch them. The Gampaha Police Crime Branch is investigating.


Veerasingham felicitated

The 47th death commemoration of Jaffna cooperative pioneer, former Principal Manipay Hindu College and Member of Parliament of Uduvil constituency Veerasingham will be felicitated at Veerasingham Hall, Jaffna on December 5. The President Jaffna District Cooperative Societies Union E Rajaram will preside. Jaffna Government Agent Ilmeda Sukumar will be the chief guest.

National Cooperative Societies president Pandu Ranawake, Cooperative Development Commissioner Mathumathy Vasanthakumar and Jaffna District Cooperative Development Assistant Commissioner V K Arunththavanathan will be the special guests. Prof Velnambi will deliver the memorial lecture.


Correction

With reference to the news item appearing in our edition of November 30 headlined "Rubber to be grown in North" the profit per acre of rubber should be Rs 15,000 and not Rs 50,000 as erroneously stated.


Lecture

Dr Joyce Neu conflict resolution specialist will deliver a lecture on 'Peace Building in Sri Lanka' at the ICES auditorium, 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8 on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 4.30 pm. Over the past 18 years as the founding Executive Director for the Joan B Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego and as Senior Associate Director and Acting Director in the Conflict Resolution Programme at The Carter Centre, Dr Neu has been responsible for designing and implementing peacebuilding and peacemaking initiatives in Africa, the Balkans, the Baltics and the Caucasus. The lecture is sponsored by the American Centre and the International Centre for Ethnic Studies.


Felicitation ceremony

The Muslim Education Progressive Society (MEPS) will for the fourth consecutive year felicitate two GCE O/L students who obtained 9As at the 2010 examination, at the Zahira College Gaffoor Hall, Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 9.30 am.


Anniversary festival

The third anniversary festival of Kottawa People's Service Volunteer Foundation will be held on December 11 at 3 pm at the Library auditorium, Kulusevana Mawatha, Kottawa. The new office bearers for the year 2011/2012 will be selected at the meeting.


Eucharistic service

An Eucharistic Service of Thanksgiving for 50 years of St Joseph's College Colombo Welfare Association, will be celebrated on December 11 at 8.30 am at the College Chapel.

A service of 'Power and Love' will be held at St Paul's Church, Milagiriya, 299, Galle Road, Colombo 4 at 5.30 pm tomorrow. All those who wish to experience the power of spiritual healing are invited to attend the service.

Anointed prayer for the sick and the needy will be offered inividually at this service to which all are welcome.


Bens carols

St Benedict's College, Colombo 13, will have their annual carols programme titled A Green Christmas on December 20 at St Lucia's Cathedral Kotahena. This inclusive service will contain secular as well as seasonal carols and music. The entrance procession will be at 6.45 pm. The programme will be presented by the college choir, primary choir, drama club, western band and 'Choro Benedicte'

The Annual General Meeting of the Past Pupil's Association of St Mary's Convent, Matara (Colombo branch) will be held on December 10, 2011 at St Joseph's College, Nugegoda at 10.30 am.
