Sri Lanka Export Development Board is on an aggressive promotional
campaign to widen the local export base in different forms to achieve an
export revenue target of US $15 billion in 2015.
Export Development Board Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said the EDB plays
a keyrole in promoting Sri Lankan products across the globe.
“Things are happening now to increase our export volumes and what we
need to do is to push these initiatives.”
Most of the country’s export products are in bulk form and it is
vital to discourage these types of exports. Much emphasis needs to be
given to export products with value addition to get a premium price in
the international market, Ratnayake said.
As a part of EDB efforts to raise local trade across the globe, EDB
has come up with aggressive promotional campaign to promote Sri Lanka
Expo 2012, the premier international trade exhibition to be held from
March 28 to 31, 2012 at the BMICH Colombo.
EDB expects more than 1,000 high profile business and official
delegates from strategic markets for this national event. “Sri Lanka
Expo 2012” is being organized by EDB to promote the country’s trade,
investment and tourism.
The event will feature an investment forum, trade symposium and
forums on tourism.
“The trade session will be held with the participation of World Trade
Organization Chief Pascal Lamy, Marks and Spencer and Victoria’s Secret
Chief Executive Officers along with high profile international business
leaders.
“Today, Sri Lanka is on a different platform with the end of
terrorism and leading retain chain Walmart and Arcadia are also eyeing
Sri Lanka for trade activities,” Ratnayake said.
