Farmers trained to use carbonic manure

North Western Provincial Council Agriculture Minister D.B. Herath has taken steps to provide equipment to farmers to manufacture carbonic manure to be used in their agricultural activities.

Accordingly, Rs 9.5 million will be invested for this project and 1,200 farmers will be trained in manufacturing carbonic manure. “All steps will be taken to discourage farmers from using poisonous chemicals and artificial fertilizers as they directly influence the increase of kidney disorders and heart ailments.

The Education Ministry in collaboration with the Agriculture Department has launched a project to involve schoolchildren in manufacturing carbonic manure and 850 schools in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts have been selected for this purpose,” said G.M. Ariyaratne, Assistant Director of Agriculture in Nikaweratiya of Kurunegala.
