Toll tally Rs 1.8 m

Sri Lanka's first toll road, E-01 Southern Expressway, collected a revenue of Rs. 1.8 million during the first 24 hours of its operations, Road Development Authority (RDA) chairman R.W.R.P. Premasiri told the Daily News yesterday.

During the first 24 hours of operations, around 6,500 vehicles travelled on the Expressway, he added.

There are eight entrances in the expressway. Most vehicles had entered from the Kottawa and Pinnaduwa entrances, the chairman said.

Premasiri said that they expect to make over Rs. 70 million in income from the Southern Expressway by the end of this year.
