‘US unwilling to see Syrian unrest end’
SYRIA: The US is against any negotiations between the Syrian
government and opposition after it advised armed Syrians against
surrendering themselves to authorities, a report says.
Last week, Syrian Interior Ministry granted amnesty to those who
surrender their weapons from November 5 to 12.
US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland quickly commented on
the development and said, “I wouldn’t advise anybody to turn themselves
in to regime authorities at the moment.”
Damascus criticized the remarks, saying such US policies violate
international law and UN anti-terrorism resolutions.
Syrian security forces have arrested hundreds of armed individuals,
among them several foreigners, including an Arab officer. This suggests
the extent of the direct interference of Arab countries in the
prolonging the unrest in Syria.
Syrian troops have also captured a rebel-based hospital, which held a
large amount of munitions, during one of their operations. The munitions
were found to have come from the Lebanese borders.
On Saturday, the Arab League also held an emergency meeting over
Syria and suspended Damascus until the implementation of an earlier deal
aimed at ending the violence.
Syria’s envoy to the Arab League Yousef Ahmad described the decision
as illegal and in breach of the organization’s charter.
Meanwhile, the opposition inside the country accuses the opposition
outside of having links with other countries. The outsiders accuse the
opposition inside of relying on the Syrian government.
Several operations by Syrian forces in Baba Amr region in Homs also
forced armed individuals to flee to other cities.
The operations by Syrian security forces have not been able to end to
the unrest in the country as armed groups are being supported by Arab
and Western states.
The West initially thought that the Syrian government would be
toppled within two to six months.
After the failure of their schemes it appears that the Western
parties to the unrest in Syria or devising a one-year plot in the hopes
of bringing down the government of Bashar al-Assad. Press TV |
