English Premier League:
Citizens and Whites
SAMAHA ISMATH ALI
Manchester City
Long, long ago, there was a time when men never walked alone. It was
Liverpool's domination. Then came the Red Devils, Manchester United, who
would never let Liverpool overrun them. Entered the Gunmen Arsenal, who
battled it out with all their might, and marched in the Blue Revolution
Chelsea, preparing for war. But as new forces entered, the city of
Manchester produced forward another side. Will these new forces win the
battle, or will the Giants rise again? The question is
unanswered, the answer will be determined, as the teams go marching
on and on...
Confused by the first paragraph? I would agree with you. The 'New
Forces' mentioned comprises of current leaders of the English Premier
League Table: Manchester City. The sky blue boys may seem to be gentle,
but are clearly not, as this 2011-12 season has turned the tables the
other way around. The usually normal team is now experiencing many
victories like a downpour. Manchester City was not only among the top
four on the table last year, this season we realize that Manager Roberto
Mancini's plans have gone a long way: He wants to bring them UP,
creating history for the side.
The team's top gun is currently Carlos Tevez, now in Manchester City
for three years. Though the no.32 has to face disciplinary action for
his mis-behaviour, he is City's toughest and most competitive
striker. He is also one of the main reasons for The Citizens' recent
victories. He is an Argentine professional footballer who also plays for
his national side. He has been moulded by his former side Manchester
United, and not just moulded; he has been brought up to perfection.
Accompanying him is City's recent purchase Sergio Aguero, another
Argentine national Star. He is a highly qualified footballer and his
goals and passes have been amazing and very helpful to City.
He was purchased from Atletico Madrid in July 2011 for a sum of £35m.
He has been able to quickly mingle himself to the heated Barclays
Premier League surroundings with difficult scoring condition and extreme
defence. He is also a defensive player and his Manager has had no regret
in buying the 'Lucky Charm' for his side, due to his unmatched
performance and skill.
The Old Trafford Stadium was alive with excitement as the Manchester
Derby took place on the Sunday before the last. The very famous game in
history has been renamed over the years as the 'MADCHESTER', as the game
is unpredictable and can make all fans go totally out of their mind. To
add to all this confusion, both teams hail from the same city.
It was a close call, and the atmosphere was tense with over-excited
fans. However, City won the derby 7-1, resulting in a vast number of
disappointed United fans. The game review had predicted that United can
win it in their second leg of the game, which will take place next year.
This has consoled many, as the difference between the two teams is five
whole points!
Manchester City shades under its wing a very tough and dominating
side, and is the most sought-after team this season. It is upon fate to
decide whether City or United will bring the trophy home to Manchester.
This trophy for Manchester City lies on the shoulders of Sergio Aguero,
Carlos Tevez, James Milner, and new purchase from Arsenal Samir Nasri.
Will City's future be secure, or will the other forces steal the trophy
with matching skill? This is exactly how Roberto Mancini has it all
planned out...the trophy for his team... and no one else.
Tottenham Hotspur
Down in White Hart Lane, the Spurs start their feared games...a
competitive side, still so ferocious...Tottenham Hotspur. Established
in1882, the team has not had such a glamorous history, but are climbing
up the ladder step by step, to show the world just what a side they are.
The Spurs have climbed up the table since their victories brought
them fame, and they also had a good time last season. They are extremely
challenging and put up a good game for their opponents. Their rivals
have long been Gunners Arsenal, due to the main reason that both teams
are based in the same city.
The team has a very experienced side, led by Captain Rafael Van der
Vaart. Their defence is tough and almost indescribable, as they possess
quite a significant number of tall players! Manager Harry Redknapp has
chosen his team well and makes extremely good decisions in buying new
footballers for his team. He also boosts the team with plenty of
encouragement every weekend, before and during games. He also has a
crafty mind and is a very good mentor for his Boys.
The team's best players have been listed short as Gareth Bale and
Luka Modric. Bale is a Welsh footballer who has been famed for his
height-six feet! He has been a truly loyal Tottenham player, ever since
he was purchased from Southampton in 2007. He has made an extension to
his contract as well; he will play for the Spurs till 2015. This has
made Manager Redknapp feel amazed at the boy's keen love for football.
Bale is now the midfielder due to his fast pace and excellent dribbling
skills.
Luka Modric is a Croatian footballer who plays for the Tottenham
Hotspur side, and the Croatian National side. He agreed transfer terms
with Tottenham back in 2008, signing a six-year contract with them. He
is now the midfielder at White Hart Lane, Tottenham's Stadium. The Spurs
had found it hard to get a midfielder, and Modric suited their terms
very well. He is a highly qualified footballer, and the Spurs have
agreed not to sell him at any cost, and even let down a £40m bid from
Chelsea. He also won the title for the Tottenham player of the Season
for 2010-11, and his passes and goals have been praised by Manager Harry
Redknapp, who declared him as a 'Hell of a player and a Manager's
dream'.
Tottenham has made a deep impact on the outlook of the English
Premier League. They are a side which brings out their best on the
field, making the most of their efforts. The game against Queens Park
Rangers brought forward the goals of Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale.
Captain Van der Vaart, on speaking about the game said that, "Tottenham
stand in fear of no one". He also states that they will win, and nothing
can stop them. His confidence has boosted the rest of the team, and also
increased their energy levels. The players are now ready, slowly
drinking all of this in, ready to take on any game, any team, at any
venue.
Tottenham Hotspur are famed for their amazing, lightning-like goals
and powerful headers. Their goals are almost indescribable, incredibly
fast and aimed well at the target. They are a very good force at
confusing the opponent's goalkeeper, due to their adrenaline and
full-of-energy goals.
This season, Tottenham's plans go a long way. Their first aim is to
stand fourth on the table, passing Newcastle United and securing a
satisfactory fourth place. Think Tottenham will be satisfied? No chance.
They have an ardent desire to achieve more! They have an advantage over
the teams below them, but they will have to strive even more if they
want to get the trophy this season.
They will certainly accomplish this with invaluable help from their
star players, also among the best in the English Premier League-Gareth
Bale, Van der Vaart, and Luka Modric.
So there go the Whites, down in White Hart Lane, ready to amaze the
world of football. Will this energized side turn the table around and
carve a name in history for themselves? Their fans sit in a nail-biting
nervous state, waiting for the result of this prediction, and the
English Premier League is frozen as they see the silent 'Yids' slowly
climb up the hill. |
