Former cricketer appointed ambassador

Former St. Sylvester's cricketer Gamini Rajapakse has been appointed
Ambassador for Jordon and will leave the country shortly.
Gamini becomes the second Sylverstian to be appointed Ambassador. The
first was Gen. Cyril Ranatunga. Gamin who was a leading civil lawyer in
Kandy, was one time MP and Provincial Council Member of the UNP, and a
few years back crossed over to the ruling party.
He played cricket for St. Sylvester's in the mid 1960's and after
leaving school he played for Kandy and later for University of Ceylon.
He was fine fielder in any position and a hard hitting batsman. Gamni
also played for the Kandy Lawyers XI.
Gamini was the president of the Kandy Club in 2008 and 2009 and
serves in the present committee headed by B.D.R.Rajan who felicitated
him a few weeks back.
His wife Indrani, a product of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy too was a
fine sportswomen during her schooldays. |
