The Sri Lankan and Vietnamese governments have agreed to an exchange
of knowledge, technology and cooperation in the media field, said Mass
Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
He was addressing the media after discussions with Vietnamese
ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh at the Mass Media and Information
Ministry yesterday.
A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the two
countries for cooperation in the field of mass media.
"Media freedom in Sri Lanka is very much in evidence and there are
seven private sector owned radio stations and TV stations, websites,
print media stations. The government owns two major TV stations, radio
networks operated by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and
newspapers publications, said the Minister. Bonds between the two
countries were further strengthened after Vietnamese President Truong
Tan Sang's visit to Sri Lanka on an invitation by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa, he said.
