Capturing the BLUE
Amalshan GUNERATHNE
Distant mountain silhouettes, refreshing sea waves or all seeing
heavens may it be, blue is a colour that associates with many divine
splendors of the world. The soothing power in blue can cleanse your sore
soul. "Blue shapes us, lifts us up, and transforms our lives. It heals
us and comforts our soul," she says. 'Forever Blues' painting exhibition
by the Danish artiste Ea Lind portrayed a mesmerizing collection of
paintings that left those who attended the event in absolute wonder. The
exhibition unraveled at the American Center Colombo last week.

As the very title of the exhibition may suggest, the predominant
colour of many of her paintings was blue. Blue foiled with a touch of
whitish gray, the collection captured the artistic taste buds of the
viewers' to the hilt. Born in 1953 in Elsinore, Denmark, a small town
close to the sea, Lind always had a fascination towards spectacular
light and subtle colours on the coastline of Denmark.
However, as bizarre as it may sound, she started painting at the age
of forty. Not many would believe that an artist would be born at such
late days in one's life. "Talent is not always something that you are
born with; it is something that you develop. You have to like what you
are doing, try doing it yourself, you might be surprised with what you
can come up with," she says.
Painting has been a great mode of expression for her since then.
Whether she was in a quick-tempered mood or in a serene frame of mind,
painting has always been a faithful companion that lightened up her life
with vibrant energy. "I paint for myself, not for others. I started to
draw at the age of forty. It has been a great mode of expression for me
since then. Most times, I draw to let out my emotion. I am an emotional
painter," she says.
She is currently working with mixed media; acrylic and a plaster of
paris to create three-dimensional expressions in her paintings. She
hopes to do an exhibition in Denmark.
