Building a new generation of young dramatists
The 32nd Youth Drama Festival organized by
National Youth Services Council together with Youth Affairs and Skills
Development Ministry was held recently at Lionel Wentd Gallery under the
patronage of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dulles
Alahapperuma. Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake and National Youth
Services Council Chairperson Lalith Pium Perera also participated in the
inauguration ceremony.
The festival will be held till November 17.

Stage drama still remains as one of the most popular forms of art in
the whole world. Drama lovers are enthusiastic and eagerly look forward
to watching stage dramas.
The 32nd Youth Drama Festival organized by National Youth Services
Council together with Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry was
held recently at Lionel Wentd Gallery under the patronage of Youth

ceremony. The festival will be held till November 17.
This time they have increased the prizes of winners. The judges are
the senior artistes, K.B. Herath, Mangala Senanayake, Piyal Kariyawasam,
Rajitha Dissanayake, Gamini Sumanasekara, Kaushalya Fernando, Buddhadasa
Galappaththi and Prof. Sunil Wijesiriwardene and the Tamil judges are
M.M.M. Rahu, Prof Saba Jeyarajah, Anthony Jeewa and Wasanthi Dayabaram.
Throughout the festival Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister
Dulles Alahapperuma will enjoy all the dramas with the audience.
A senior artiste will participate as a chief guest everyday. Roger
Seneviratne, Palitha Silva, Prasannajith Abeysooriya, Chandani
Seneviratne, Manike Aththanayake, Sriyantha Mendis, Nishshanka
Diddeniya, Jayalath Manoratne and P. Raja Sri are among them.

Neranjan Chandradithya’s ‘Reality’, Smpathni Ashani’s ‘Pasmaha
Balum’, Ronika Chamali and Selvaraj Leelawathi’s ‘Kurudum Nondiyanum’,
Madushani Siriwardene’s ‘Thummase Danetawath’ are the short dramas.
On November 8 Sanath Kumara Karunarathna’s ‘Amandla’ and on November
9, M L P D A U Jayaratne’s ‘Sanda Ella Marai’, K.A.H. Sumeda Haggala’s
‘Lanweema’, M.A. Danapala Manchanayake’s ‘Yo Yo’, will be staged. W P T
Laknath’s ‘Le Neya’ will be staged on November 11 and Tharanga
Priyadarshani’s ‘Format’, Tharaka Pushpakumara’s ‘Oluwen Gahamuda’ and
Malith Jayasinghe’s ‘Kuin’ will be staged on November 12.
On November 13 Vijitha Bandara’s ‘Wadakaya Wahala Uda’ will be
staged. On November 14, K.A.K. Jayasinghe’s ‘Darkness’, Asith
Muthukumarana’s ‘Sanwathsaraya’, H. Mohan Asanka’s ‘Mehema’ will be
staged.
Gayan Hapugoda’s ‘Thawa Tikak Hithanna’ will be staged on November
15.
On November 16 Danushka Poornima and G T Laknath’s ‘Eleven Chairs
will be staged. Neranjan Chandradithya’s ‘Haradanum Seedeyum’, M.C.
Najumudeen’s ‘Saloomi’ and S. Waradakumar’s ‘Maname Pesu’ will be staged
on the last day of the festival. |
