Cambrians and GHS handball champions

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa and Girls High School, Mount Lavinia made history by winning the boys and girls under-19 Cup Championship respectively in the country's first ever schools handball tournament which concluded on a grand note at the D.S. Senanayaka College ground recently.

The tournament was conducted in boys/girls age categories under-15 and 19 for Cup, Plate and Bowl Championships. The hosting school, D.S. Senanayaka College became the boys' under-19 Cup runner-up while the Buddhist Ladies' College won the girls Cup runner-up Shield in the same age category.

Cambrians who dominated the boys segment also clinched the under-15 Cup Championship beating Kuliyapitiya MMV in the final while the Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena defeated Buddhist Ladies' College in the same age category in the girls Cup Championship final.

More than 1000 participants from schools across the island took part in the inaugural tournament leaving good omens on game's future. Sri Lanka Schools' Handball Association (SLSHA) under the auspices of Sri Lanka Handball Federation (SLHF) conducted the event.

According to SLSHA, the sport has been introduced to schools just four months ago and its rapid popularity was evident with the 1000 odd participation in the first tournament.
