Special awards for school traffic wardens

Four hundred school traffic wardens from 12 schools in the Nugegoda
Police Division were presented with awards for their volunteer service
to reduce the number of highway accidents occuring daily in urban areas.
The awards ceremony organized by the Mirihana Police Traffic Division
was held at the Lyceum International School, Nugegoda under the
patronage of Senior DIG Asoka Wijethilake.
‘This type of awards ceremony is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka,
where traffic wardens were felicitated,’ DIG Wijethilake said.
He said this initiative by the Nugegoda Police Division will set an
example to other police divisions.
”Our country needs a law abiding, disciplined force of social workers
to help the national development drive and the country’s forward march,”
he said.
Lyceum International School Group Managing Director MP Mohan Lal
Grero delivered the welcome speech.
Puimika Shahani of St Joseph’s Girls School was named the Most
Outstanding School Traffic Warden (girls) and Sawinda Dahanayake of St
John’s College, Nugegoda who was adjudged Outstanding School Traffic
Warden (boys) were awarded certificates and cash prizes.
Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda received the award for the Most Outstanding
Hand Signalling team, while Lyceum International School was named the
Best School Traffic Warden Group and the runners-up in this category was
St Joseph’s Girls School, Nugegoda.
Former Mirihana Police Traffic Division OIC, SI Kulathunga was
presented with a special award for the excellent services rendered to
train traffic wardens.
Nugegoda Police Division Deshabandu Tennekoon, Mount Lavinia SP
Ravindra Karawita, ASP Nihal Mendis and Kohuwela OIC Roshan Rajapaksa
were also present. |
