A past student of Hillwood College Kandy, Hasara Dembatapitiya will
display her fabric painting products at the Singer Mega Kandy from
9.30am to 3.30pm on Thursday (November 10). 21 year old Hasara is a
person with a speech and learning difficulty.
Guided by her mother, Chithrangani Dembatapitiya a well known sewing
teacher, cookery and Cake decorater, fabric painter and dress maker since
1989, Hasara also has many talents by following her mother’s foot steps.
“She has been taken to numbers of Doctors in Sri Lanka and in India.
In the mean time I tried to teach her what I excelled in. I identified
her ability and pulled her on to the correct path.It was a difficult
task but, I managed to do that. Now she stands on her feet. Other than
teaching at home
I send her out to a class to move with others,” her mother said.
Her father was in the Army serving in the operational areas when I
was pregnant. She has two sisters. Hasara’s mother has found her a class
at Women Development Centre (WDC) Kandy. Under her teacher Anita’s
guidance who polished her abilities,Chithrangani noticed that Hasara was
happy there with other fellow students. Today Hasara excelles in fabric
painting and embroidery.
