Attempts to humiliate SL in CHOGM

Attempts to humiliate Sri Lanka by the LTTE rump and terror backers, ended in a disaster at the CHOGM in Perth. They took to the streets to vent their anger on Sri Lankan President during the opening ceremony. One of their members filed a human rights case against the President in Melbourne but the Australian govt did not allow it to proceed citing diplomatic immunity.

Some time back the LTTE rump sabotaged the President’s speech at the Oxford Union. Their tactic in Perth as well was similar but it back-fired.

While the LTTE rump was making every effort to disrupt Sri Lanka at the CHOGM, the TNA, claiming to be the sole representatives of the Tamils, had rushed to the US to brief US State Department officials about the current situation in Sri Lanka. The TNA openly and blatantly supported the LTTE.

Traffic Police need training

At Thurstan Road, near the junction of Bagatelle and Alfred Place, any one can see the way we human beings behave. Vehicles which are taking school children, driving at full speed and recently a bus and a van collided at that junction.

There is a lack of co-ordination between the traffic and the pedestrians,

who are using the Zebra crossing, moving from St. Michael’s Road to Galle Road opposite Methodist College.

As one gets into Galle Road, moving towards Galle Face, one cannot move because of the Traffic Police allowing pedestrians to cross.

The Traffic Police need training as they are not trained properly.

Haputale railway station road

The Railway Station road at Haputale, which is a deviation from the main junction was in a perilous state of disrepair for the last three decades uncared by all concerned. Pot-holes turned into mini-ponds during rainy days rendering the road to a death trap. People had fallen into muddy water filled ditches and they had ended up at dispensaries.

Public complaints have never been looked into until the new chairman of the Urban Council took over. The puddles and mini-ponds are no more due to the new, young, able and energetic chairman who has used his good offices to repair this road for people to use it freely.

There is also a burning question in regard to the Public Library which has shifted to a “god-forsaken” building right up in a steep hill top.

This has to be relocated to a convenient building in the town and it is suggested that a small portion of the Town Hall is separated and used for this purpose or the basement of the Town Hall is modified to accommodate the library.
