Teacher given bail over caning incident

Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasinghe, released a female teacher of a Horana school who had allegedly caned and slapped a grade 9 school boy on personal bail of Rs 50,000 each with two sureties.

The suspect teacher is a resident in the Pokunuwita area. According to the police, the teacher had punished the student for allegedly bringing a present to be given to a school girl. The police also said that the student had undergone treatment at the Kalubowila hospital for one and a half days. Horana police had arrested the teacher and the case will be taken up on February 06, 2012.
