Addressing the gathering after launching the service, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that it is timely to launch the Health Net because today in the private sector, people kill each other for money.

The Karandeniya doctor's murder is a good example of this. Society has become cruel because of the greediness for money and profit-making.

Minister Sirisena pointed out that the government is offering a significant service to the public using Information Technology and offering advanced technology under the direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Information Technology has been used worldwide for the betterment of mankind and also to destroy same.

The mobile phone is a very useful tool but today it is the biggest challenge faced by parents and school authorities where discipline of children is concerned. Launching Health Net marks a historical event in the Sri Lankan health sector.

Health Net is sponsored by Mobitel and Poorani Inspiration Agency. ICTA Programme Director Wasantha Deshapriya and few others also spoke.
