Police curfew in Karandeniya

A Police curfew was imposed yesterday at Karandeniya to bring the situation under control after people set fire to the residence and laboratory of one of the two suspects who were arrested in connection with the murder of a medical officer of the Borakanda Government Hospital in Karandeniya.

Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said a mob set fire to the house and the laboratory of the suspect in the killing of Dr. Prasad Jayasinghe on September 29. Police said that the suspect, who is a doctor himself, had been taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday along with another individual.

Police had also recovered a gun used to carry out the crime.

Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.

Dr Prasad Jayasinghe was shot dead by two persons on September 29 at Maha Edanda area in Karandeniya.

Police also said that the CID also seized a weapon which is suspected to have been used by the suspects. The CID is conducting further investigations.
