Fined for selling porn

A man who had sold pornographic photos and videos of children and
youths, and sold colour copies of a newly released film was released on
Rs 10,000 bail and four personal bonds totalling Rs 50,000 by Horana
Magistrate Mahinda Ranasingha. Suspect, A D S Anuradha (23) is a
resident of Ingiriya.
Inquiries revealed that students and youths had come to his place
with storage devices and had got pornographic data copied.
Bus goes down precipice
The driver and conductor were injured and admitted to the Glencorn
and Nawalapitiya hospitals when a private bus sans any other passengers
ran off the Hatton-Dickoya road at Aluthgala and went down a precipice
around 8 am on Monday. The conductor Raju Muttiah (36) of Bagawanthalawa
later succumbed to his injuries. Hatton Police is investigating.
Body found in sitting room
Embilipitiya Magistrate held an inquiry into the death of a woman
resident at Saththaragedara, Mahapelessa whose body was lying in the
sitting room of her house on Monday morning. The body was later removed
to the Embilipitiya hospital morgue for a post mortem examination.
The deceased was identified as Kathamuna Kattuge Kusumawathie (70).
Embilipitiya Police is investigating.
Infant’s body recovered
Katugastota Police found a body of an infant floating in the Pinga
oya, Akurana yesterday morning. Investigations are continuing.
Thief released on bail

A man who had stolen iron sheets from a shop at Ingiriya town, was
released by Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasinghe on Rs 5,000 of bail
(security deposit) and Rs 50,000 on two personal bonds. The Magistrate
postponed the case for January 11, 2012.
Commemoration lecture
To mark the 112th birth anniversary commemoration of the founder
president of the World Fellowship of Buddhists Prof. G. P. Malalasekara,
the World Fellowship of Buddhists, Sri Lanka Centre has organized a
commemoration lecture 'The World of Buddhism: Unity and Diversity'.
The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Y. Karunadasa, visiting
professor of Buddhist Studies of the University of Hong Kong at the All
Ceylon Buddhist Congress Hall, 380, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 on
Thursday November 3, 2011 at 4.00 p.m.
Public talk
Asoka Mahinda Jayasingha will deliver a public talk in English on
'Vithakka Santhana Sutta' at the meeting of the Servants of the Buddha
Society on November 5 at 4.30 pm at Maithree Hall, Lauries Road,
Bambalapitiya.
Hajj festival
According to the unanimous decision taken at the Moonsighting
Conference held in the evening of Thursday, 27.10.2011 at the
Madrasathul Hameediah Hall, Colombo Grand Mosque Inc., the Eidhul Azha
(Hajji festival) will be celebrated on Monday, November 7, 2011, a news
release states.
The recital of Thakbeer should commence from the Fajr of Sunday,
November 6, 2011 (9th Dhul Hijja - Arafah day) till the end of Asr on
Thursday, November 10, the last day of Ayyamuth Thasreek).
