Justice Minister attends AALCO meeting

Justice Minister and SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem who is in the USA attending Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) meeting, delivered the opening address as its President on Monday at UN headquarters, New York.

Introductory remarks were made by Secretary General Prof Dr Rahamath Mohammad, following the opening address.

The meeting, attended by representatives of member states has been jointly organized by AALCO and International Law Commission (ILO). Addresses were delivered by delegates on institutional legal issues, crime of aggression, expulsion of aliens and protection of persons in the event of disasters. Sri Lanka is one of the founder members of the organization and its four sessions were held in Sri Lanka since its inception.

Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem was unanimously elected president at the 50th annual sessions of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) in July, in Colombo.
